Love that Journey for Me

It’s funny to think back because, since school, I had become very out of touch with my artistic side. I used to get in trouble at school for drawing on the desks. I had art every semester I could (granted- it was the easy a class for everyone at our school) and all of my books were covered in collages and filled with sketches and poems. Mom wouldn’t let me doodle during church until she realized that I actually listened better when I did.

It wasn’t until last year that my art came back to me. And it started with this picture of Trinity.

After Covid hit, I found myself in an art store and bought the basic starter supplies for watercolor and acrylic painting.  I didn’t have a goal, I just knew I wanted to create something. There was never any pressure to perform. I’m certainly not a perfectionist. I just do what I feel until I’m done.

A few months later, I saw some shoes online and decided to paint my own. Tramell and Brandon hyped my shoes up way more than I’d ever anticipated and gave me the push to start creating for others from Dark Skint Clark Kent to Super Woman RBG.

In the middle of that, I also saw a cute puppy online and decided to dust off those acrylics I’d purchased months before and done nothing with. That got an overwhelming response from you all as well. Since November, I’ve painted almost forty pet portraits for you and your loved ones!

I can’t express how much your support means to me. At my kindergarten graduation, I said I wanted to grow up to be an artist. And now I feel like I’m finding her again. All of this began accidentally and I cannot wait to see where this journey continues. As Alexis Rose put it best, “I love that journey for me.”
